Nashville L’Abri Conference - 2019

Nashville LAbri Conference 2019

The two-day conference will include:

  • Lectures
  • Small group workshops/discussions
  • 2 lunches and 1 dinner together
  • An evening of music from local artists
  • An environment to nurture conversations and questions

L'Abri is French for "the shelter."" The L'Abri ministry was founded by Francis and Edith Schaeffer in 1955 to provide a hospitable environment for any person seeking honest answers to honest questions about God and truth.

Following in that tradition, the Nashville L'Abri Conference aims to provide an opportunity through lectures, discussions, and personal interaction to deepen understanding of what it means to be human in a fragmenting world. Each lecture, workshop, mealtime, and discussion are designed to facilitate an exchange of ideas among conference attendees and speakers around subjects such as:

Sexuality

  • Bodies with Meaning: Christianity's Liberating Sex Ethics and Sex in the First Century and the Twenty-First
  • What Does the Bible Have to Tell us About Sexual Harassment and #MeToo?
  • Cultivating a Hopeful Imagination in a Pornified Culture

Relationships

  • Becoming Less Fragile: Self-control as Inner Dominion
  • How to be a Better Lover: Attention in a Distracted World
  • Staying Human in a Smartphone Culture
  • Living with grief while parenting young children and balancing work and home life
  • Living with Contradictory Expectations: A Meditation on “Let it Go” and Other Inspirational Break-up Songs
  • Grief and Anger: Appropriate Responses at the Tomb of Lazarus in Dylan Thomas's Poem "Do Not Go Gentle", and in Our Own Lives

Community

  • America's Polarized Politics: Can Christians have a Redemptive Role?
  • How far does our hospitality go? How far can it go? What can we welcome and gather in, and how?
  • Pursuing Freedom in a Culture of Choice
  • Early Peacemaking: Can Conflict be Outmaneuvered Before it Starts?

Space is very limited and we expect that all available spots will fill very quickly. If you are interested, please register as soon as possible.

What is a L'Abri Conference?

L'Abri is the French word for shelter. The L'Abri ministry was founded by Francis and Edith Schaeffer in 1955 to provide an environment where Christians and non-Christians could seek answers to questions about God and truth. Following in that tradition, a L'Abri Conference is an opportunity through lectures, discussions, and personal interaction, to feed and hone the mind in an effort to deepen one's understanding of what it means to be a Christian in our society. The on-campus housing and mealtimes are designed to facilitate an exchange of ideas among conferees and speakers.
